I usually make my own soft wax out of sugar and lemon juice. I am not always successful with making the wax. It is a huge pain to make a soft sugar wax that is PERFECT: able to spread thinly at a very warm (not hot) temperature and also grasp at the hairs. It is cheaper of course but I feel like I f...ailed enough times to have just bought this instead. This formula is perfect. 1) it is water soluble - the main reason I make my own sugar wax is because I hate cleaning up with store wax that needs a specific substance to be dissolved. This wax washes off any surface easily with warm water. The roller also spreads the wax thin enough that it dissolves quickly. 2nd) It has a lower use temperature than homemade sugar wax. After heating this wax (20sec in the microwave!!! not 20 minutes dear god!), it may seem like it is too hot to use immediately. But I could actually use it comfortably with about 20 seconds of wait time. If the wax is heated enough, the roller spreads the wax so easily and thinly that it immediately cools down to the body temperature (no burns!). This also means you are in full control of how much wax you can spread, which is really great. The okay parts: 1) I like the reusable strips. They were really good for travel. You can also use the same strip more than once before washing off the wax if the wax was spread thin enough. But you can only reuse the strip (i.e. wash the strip) a few times before it loses adhesion. I imagine you can use this wax with your own cloth strips as well. 2) The roller does collect wax at the sides, if you only roll in one direction. I tried to prevent this by rolling in one direction for one strip, and rolling in the other direction for the next one. This doesn't completely remove the wax, but it's not a huge issue. The bad part: 1) I wish this was in a bigger size (same roller size, just more product)! I grow a lot of hair, but I was using this product when half of my leg hair wasn't completely grown out. I used up about half of the container to wax my legs and my armpits. 2) It doesn't grab all hairs. It grabs about 85% of them -- some of the shorter hairs that would be easily waxed off with normal sugar wax could not be grabbed by this product. I wonder if I had applied the wax while it was even hotter, then the shorter hairs would be waxed off? Overall: I love this product for the sake of convenience and safety. It's easy to handle. I wish there were extra cartridges of the roller available separately.
